METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing chewing gum from concrete depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left not long ago and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to remove it by covering it with ice until the gum freezes, then scraping it off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a gooey and sticky glob. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper under the gum residue. After that we move the scraper very slowly under the gum and the entire piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above method is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove gum that is already black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete, we use a hot water pressure washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees in order to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we don’t use very high pressure because that could ruin the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses more pressure than necessary to clean concrete. These surfaces can be damaged a lot easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can need up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional chewing gum removal service.
